A Field Guide to Urban Camping in Portland, Oregon
According to the 2015 Point-in-Time Count of Homelessness, homelessness remains a crisis in Portland, Oregon. In a move to ease some of the suffering of the homeless population, Portland's Mayor Charlie Hales is authorizing sleeping on sidewalks across Portland. They are legalizing urban camping to a degree rarely seen in major American cities, claims one area newspaper. This has apparently raised the ire of many of the city's housed residents.
