27 November 2108 - Story about Michael Tracy, first place winner of the 2017 contest, published on the blog page of The Coalition on Human Needs, a Washington, D.C. organization that promotes public policies which address the needs of low-income and other vulnerable populations. 

26 November 2018 -Story about Isabella Zou, third  place winner of the 2017 contest, published on the blog page of The Coalition on Human Needs, a Washington, D.C. organization that promotes public policies which address the needs of low-income and other vulnerable populations.
 
15 September 2018 - Applications for the 2018 Steve Gruetzmacher Homeless Awareness Essay Contest will be accepted through Sunday, 28 October 2018. 
 16 July 2017 - Winners of the 2017 Steve Gruetzmacher Homeless Awareness Essay Contest are:
  • First Place: Michael Tracy, Las Vegas, NV
  • Second Place: Zoe Lovelace, Houston, TX
  • Third Place: Isabella Zou, Austin, TX

15 January 2017 - The application deadline has been extended to Saturday,  21 January 2017.

16 Dec 2016 - The 2017 Steve Gruetzmacher Homeless Awareness Essay Contest has been launched.  
21 July 2016 - Alexandra Flegle interviewed by Dallas television station CW33 about her winning essay.

25 May 2016 - We received several excellent essays, one of which, written by 12 year old Michelle Liu, has been published in the Reno Gazette-Journal.  It even made the front page of the Nevada section of the Sunday edition on 8 May 2016.  You can read the essay here.​

22 May 2016  -  We are happy to announce that the winner of this year's contest is  17 year old Alexandra Flegle of Dallas, TX.  You can read the winning essay here.
